Underfloor heating provides the warmth to a room from the floor up, rather than heating the ceiling space first as with radiators. A heating element warms a heat-spreading (or radiating) device laid under the floor to achieve an even warmth across it.
We offer T2 Raychem underfloor heating cable mats. These are 500mm in width and can be supplied to cover a maximum of 10m2 area using only one mat.
A T2 Red Raychem Self Regulating Cable System is also available which is ideal for use under wood flooring . This can be used in conjunction with Raychem T2 reflecta which are 720mm * 400mm insulation boards with grooves which offer the maximum energy saving solution.
What does self-regulating mean?
Raychem self-regulating heating cables automatically adjust their power output to compensate for temperature changes.
As the ambient temperature drops, the core contracts microscopically and the number of electrical paths through the core increases = More heat is produced.
Conversely, as the ambient temperature rises, the core expands and has fewer electrical paths. Less heat is produced.
The advantages of a self-regulating underfloor heating system
During the day, the sun heats the floor next to the window.
- The cable will lower its heat output automatically.
- No risk of overheating.
Near the door there is a cold draught
- The cable senses the need for more heat. and increases its heat output.
Under the carpet, there is less need for heat.
- The cable will sense this and lower it’s heat output accordingly.
- There is no risk of overheating or damage to the floor.
